about

Welcome,
My photographic journey began in the mid 1960s with the purchase of a Pracktica SLR and then, along with many others, the long learning process started. Help and advice came mainly from the photographic comics available and other novices but before long photographic clubs were tried out but in those days help was very hard to come by as the issues you needed help on were considered to have been mastered before you joined, so good old Trial and Error prevailed. As confidence grew, developing and printing came along, prompted by the loan of the relevant equipment from a neighbour who told me how easy it was! Eventually I achieved a level of competence which eventually led to the inevitable "need" for better equipment and I purchased several 35mm cameras, followed by medium format cameras and in 2003 my first digital camera.
In 2005 I took early retirement and this gave me all the time I needed to concentrate on photography and to sort out the areas of weakness I felt I had. Up to this point I had been self taught but I realised that to overcome my weaknesses I would need the help of professional photographers and in the ensuing years I attended several photographic workshops which proved to be the right decisions. The help I received on these workshops was beneficial but over the years I have been helped and encouraged by a small group of friends, all on the same journey. We have shared our ups and downs, highs and lows and I value their input greatly.
I do not pretend that the photographs on this site are of technical or aesthetic value, they have not been shot to win competitions or impress people nor have they been shot with sales or commercial reasons in mind, they have been shot because I like them and enjoyed going out and taking them which to me is what photography is all about.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this site and best wishes to you on your photographic journey

MOST THINGS IN LIFE ARE MOMENTS OF PLEASURE AND A LIFETIME OF EMBARRASSMENT BUT PHOTOGRAPHY IS A MOMENT OF EMBARRASSMENT AND A LIFETIME OF PLEASURE.
